Guidelines for Content Sharing

MARCO Guidelines for Content Sharing and Cross-Promotion

Supporting the Voice and Visibility of Recovery Community Organizations

Purpose

The Minnesota Alliance of Recovery Community Organizations (MARCO) is committed to uplifting the voices, services, and successes of Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs). These guidelines ensure that our content-sharing and cross-promotion practices are equitable, collaborative, and aligned with our shared mission to grow the grassroots recovery movement across Minnesota.

Guiding Principles

  1. Amplify, Don’t Compete
We promote a culture of collaboration. MARCO content sharing exists to amplify RCO efforts, not to compete for attention or resources.
  2. Center Recovery Voices
We prioritize content that highlights lived experience, peer support, recovery equity, and community empowerment.
  3. Respect Organizational Identity
Each RCO has its own voice and mission. We share content in a way that respects and preserves that identity.
  4. Equity and Inclusion
We aim to reflect the diversity of Minnesota’s recovery communities across cultures, regions, identities, and pathways.
  5. Transparency and Consent
We only share or co-brand content with permission. Attribution and original intent are always honored.

Let’s Build A Recovery-Oriented Future Together

This work is about more than visibility. It’s about creating solidarity and unified messaging around Recovery Community Organizations. By sharing content thoughtfully, we help create a more connected and resilient recovery movement across Minnesota.

Lighthouse Beginnings

LHB came to life when we became a 501(c)(3) in 2020. We built a board of directors of people in recovery. LHB launched for the purpose of assisting and empowering individuals to remove the roadblocks experienced while in the recovery process.

LHB was developed and continues to be managed by individuals with lived experience, education, diverse backgrounds, and different pathways of recovery. We have locations in Brainerd and in Minneapolis, trying to expand our reach to those who face recovery daily, know people in recovery, face homelessness, or have been wrongly incarcerated.

Our Approach

Peer support encompasses a range of activities and interactions between people who share similar experiences of being diagnosed with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both. This mutuality is often called “peerness” — a connection between a peer support worker and a person in or seeking recovery that promotes connection and inspires hope.

Peer support offers a level of acceptance, understanding, and validation not found in many other professional relationships. By sharing their own lived experience and practical guidance, peer support workers help people develop goals, create strategies for self-empowerment, and take steps toward building fulfilling, self-determined lives through individualized wellness plans.
